It's a grey grey, world...

Whenever I am sad or depressed, I wear all black or different shades of grey and black. That day's particular sadness was induced by the long cold spell that seemed like it would never end. Still, I mustered the courage to go out for a stroll, after arming myslef with several layers of cotton and wool and Metallica's Blackened on repeat in my ears. After a long walk, Ireally needed a nice, warm place to take a respite from Belgrade's koshava wind so I walked into my favorite shoe store with no shopping in mind. In fact, I was adamant I was NOT going to buy anything. But it was not meant to me.... coup de foudre... I fell in love the moment I lay eyes on them.

Miss 60's peek-a-boo booties with chains that come off to produce a more regular-looking, goody two-shoes version of their naughty twin-sisters.  Wow, without the chains they are almost job-interview appropriate!!!
A couple of days later, I again braved the weather and decided to take my new babies out for a test run. Although it was still daytime and I was just going out for a cuppa, I opted for the chained version but kept the rest of my outfit intentionally simple and metal-free, for the fear of looking like a drag version of Lemy Kilmister.

Hopped on and off the bus, took a long walk from Beogradjanka to Strahinjica bana street and back and was pleasantly surprised to see how comfortable and warm these booties turned out to be. Whatever apprehensions and suspicions I might have originally had in terms of wearability of any peek-a-boo booties, they were dispersed the second I realized I did not feel ANY cold on my feet and toes. In fact, they felt just like any closed-toe shoes. Not only do the platform soles make the extra-high heels easy and comfortable to wear even in long walks, but they also perfectly insulate my feet from the pavements (I realized this a couple of years ago and yes, all the winter footwear I've bought since features platform soles in varying styles and heights, going anywhere from 0.5  to 2 inches, not counting the heels).

Treated myself to a heavenly variety of liquor-filled chocolates and a cup of latte from Galerija cokolade http://www.artival.co.rs/galerija/. It was only fair to reward myself for the wise shopping decision and a great bargain. Oh, I almost forgot... waiting for me, they survived a number of discounts and went down from the original 200 to 45 EUR.
