For the reasons largely unbeknownst to me, First of May - International Workers' Day has become one big celebration of gluttony and laziness and nobody seems to mind. In search of the ways to acknowledge and portray
the irony, I thought Ada Ciganlija would be as fitting a location as any.
All in all, this was just another May Day celebration.
That was what a look (and a sniff) at one side of the road revealed.
BBQ smoke - check.
Dozes of beer crates cooling in the Sava River - check.
Throngs of people lying around and scratching their bellies full of the 1st and 2nd items on the list, check. That was what a look (and a sniff) at one side of the road revealed.
And the other? A golf course, no less.
Well-guarded yet totally abandoned. I guess the haves do not like to be seen celebrating "The World Holiday of the Proletariat"...
Yet nobody seemed to mind the irony or let be bothered by the stark contrast in the appearance and feel of the two worlds, co-existing in immediate proximity to each other.
Having witnessed the fact that Serbia has its very own gated community, back on my beloved bike I hopped and continued to pedal on.... until I find a spot to rest my weary legs.
That was when and where I realized...
Ada belongs to all of us, both richer and poorer.
I REALLY, REALLY, REALLY LOVE THIS BLOG POST... DID I SAY I LOVE IT?:)
